Mendrop Engineering Resources, LLC was selected by the Mississippi Department of Transportation to evaluate the potential for scour and develop a plan of action at the bridge site on U.S. Interstate Highway 55 (I-55) Bridge #266.8A & B over Hickahala Creek in Tate County. The bridge scour evaluation study was performed in four phases, including hydrologic, hydraulic, and scour analysis and a geotechnical and structural assessment. Burns Cooley Dennis, Inc. was subcontracted to perform subsurface exploration at the site, while Amec Foster Wheeler (AFW) was subcontracted to perform the structural assessment. Mendrop then utilized the data and analysis to provide MDOT with a recommended plan of action.
In February 2016, Mendrop was selected by MDOT to provide Phase “A” design including conceptual, preliminary, and final bridge hydraulic recommendations and bridge plans for the I-55 twin bridges over Hickahala Creek and relief bridges (Bridges #267.6 A&B and 266.8 A&B) in Tate County, MS. Mendrop obtained substructure and ground survey data, which was supplemented with survey provided by Garver, LLC. Mendrop performed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, including one- and two-dimensional hydraulic modeling, to provide bridge hydraulic recommendations. The conceptual hydraulic report provided to MDOT included bridge scour assessments and conceptual bridge layout drawings.
